The 19th Annual Father's Day Car Show in Hermitage is looking for a new parking spot this year.

The state Route 18 widening project and repaving of East State Street is putting a few bumps in the road for the annual event, but the Shenango Valley Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America, which sponsors the event, is hopeful they'll find a new home for their show.

"We're working on finding an alternate location," said SVAACA vice president Ed Bailey, adding that the former location was from Maple Drive to state Route 18.

According to Hermitage Park and Recreations director Ed Chess, the road widening project is scheduled to be at the East State Street and state Route 18 intersection by mid-June. Father's Day is June 16.

"At the time of the car show, there will be some open ditches," said Chess, who added that Sharon Paving had been contracted to pave East State Street this year, and the paving may be in progress during the time of the show as well.

"We're looking at some private properties," said Bailey, noting that the size of the event makes it a challenge to find a good location.

"We have probably ... 15,000 spectators, and around 550 show cars plus occupants," Bailey said. "There's so many issues that need addressed from safety concerns, fire department access, parking, etc., and it all adds up in the end."

The annual event started in 1983.
