Senior Center sets March activities

Sandy Lake Senior Community Center has set its March activities.

McQuiston Center by the Park, 29 Railroad St., will be a site for AARP volunteers to prepare returns for elderly, handicapped and low-income taxpayers from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday. It also has 2002 property tax/rent rebate forms and PACE applications.

Seniors will visit Lakeview Head Start from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. March 13; and Greenville Head Start from 9 a.m. to noon March 22.

The St. Patrick's Day buffet dinner dance is set for March 15 with Irish music by Wild Clover Trio and dance music by Voyage. Participants are urged to wear green. A non-alcohol bar will be available. Doors open at 5 p.m., with dinner, including three meats and seven side dishes, served at 5:30 p.m. The dance begins at 7 p.m. Donation: $8 at the registration table. The center is closed during the day.

Seniors will leave at 9 a.m. March 20 to visit the new Shenango Valley center in Hermitage. Sign up at the registration table and mark a "T" by your name if you plan to ride transit. Fee: $1 round trip; $1.50 with lunch. The trip includes a tour on arrival and a program by Dr. Linda Spanos on "Drugs vs. Herbs."

Seniors are asked to wear their Easter bonnets for the program at 9 a.m. March 28.

  • Tuesday -- 11:20 a.m., Poetry Day.

  • Wednesday -- 11:20 a.m., Sing-along.

  • Thursday -- 11:20 a.m., Table game.

  • Friday -- 11:20 a.m., Games Day.

  • March 11 -- 11:20 a.m., Organ music; and 1 p.m., Bridge & 500 card party.

  • March 12 -- 11 a.m. to noon, Blood pressure screening by Life Force Ambulance; and 11:20 a.m., table game.

  • March 14 -- 9 a.m., Program Committee meeting; and 11:20 a.m., horse racing.

  • March 18 -- 11:20 a.m., Family table feud.

  • March 19 -- 11:20 a.m., Spring Fling.

  • March 21 -- 11:15 a.m., Birthday and anniversary party with Jim Tinkey. Lunch donation, $2.00.

  • March 25 -- 11:15 a.m., "Start Today for a Healthy Tomorrow," Katherine Wenzel.

  • March 26 -- 11:20 a.m., Joke Day.

  • March 27 -- 11:20 a.m., Wheel of Fortune; and 1 p.m., watercolor class.

  • March 29 -- Center closed for Good Friday.

    Daily schedule includes:

  • Monday -- 9 a.m., Line dance; 10:15 a.m., Seniorcise; 1 p.m., oil painting; and Bridge.

  • Tuesday -- 9 a.m., Shuffleboard.

  • Wednesday -- 9 a.m., Line dance; 10:15 a.m., Seniorcise (except 3-20-02); and 1 p.m., Tai Chi.

  • Friday -- 10:15 a.m., Seniorcise (except 3-15-02).

  • April 8-12 -- Mercer County Senior Art Show.

  • Nov. 2-7 -- Branson, Mo., money due Oct. 15.

  • Dec. 15 -- Christmas in Akron, money due Nov. 14.
