EAST LACKAWANNOCK TOWNSHIP

I-80 crash victims were from Ohio

The two people killed in a Tuesday accident on Interstate 80 in East Lackawannock Township were Trumbull County residents, state police said.

Zainub Ashraf, 26, of Girard, and Michael K. Overton, 42, of Warren, were killed instantly after a tractor-trailer went out of control on the icy roadway and hit them as they stood on the side of the road, police said.

At 7:30 a.m., Ms. Ashraf's car was eastbound near milepost 14 when she lost control of it on an icy section, police said. The car left the road, traveled into the median and overturned, police said.

Overton stopped to assist Ms. Ashraf and her passenger, Asma Ashraf, 54, also of Girard, out of the car.

Overton and the Ashrafs were standing on a berm near the car when a tractor-trailer driven by Dennis K. Pingel, 46, of Woodburn, Ind., went out of control on the same section of highway, left the road, crashed into the car and hit Overton and Ms. Ashraf, police said.

Asma Ashraf, Pingel and Pingel's passenger, Dora Bell Pingel, 41, also of Woodburn, suffered minor injuries. The Pingels were treated at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System; Asma Ashraf was treated at United Community Hospital, Pine Township, hospital spokeswomen said.
