Officials to drain pool, fix leak

The Farrell Area School District swimming pool is leaking at the rate of about 5,000 gallons a month, but officials are not looking to fix it before the end of school.

The rate is not great enough to consider closing it now, said Business Administrator Ronald Pendel.

In June, the pool will be drained and an attempt made to find and fix the leak.

"I have no idea," Pendel said of where the water might be going, adding it probably is seeping into the ground.

No district facilities have been damaged by the water.

The pool has leaked and been patched several times; the latest leak might be an old one resurfacing, Pendel said.

Although officials said they hope the district maintenance crew might be able to find and fix the leak, Pendel said he doubts they can.
