GREENVILLE

Authority hires broker to sell land

Greenville Municipal Authority hired a real estate broker Thursday to sell 190 acres the authority owns in Hempfield Township.

The sale price could be in the millions, but the money will not go toward bailing the borough out of its fiscal crisis.

"We will not be making donations to the borough (with proceeds from the potential sale)," said authority President Mario Marini.

Money made in the sale will go toward infrastructure and water company improvements, Marini said.

The board hired Harshaw's Real Estate Inc. as the broker for the sprawling chunk of land between Hadley and Donation roads and Williamson and Methodist roads.

Nicholas DiBucci of nearby Wasser Road has already expressed interest in buying the entire parcel, while David Weaver of Williamson Road has said he is interested in purchasing an acre surrounding his home, the board said.

"This is not a fire sale," said board member Dick Miller.

The land will be marketed competitively, Miller said.
