GREENVILLE

Liquor license transfer from Farrell gets nod

By Tom Fontaine
Herald Staff Writer

Greenville Borough Council Tuesday approved the transfer of a liquor license from Farrell to Greenville.

Most of the audience applauded the vote.

Robert Glover of Mercer requested the license transfer. His attorney, Stephen Mirizio, said Glover wants to open a "family-style restaurant" called The Brass Tap at 104 Main St., the site of the former Iron Kettle. It would have a bar in its basement. Glover has said he wants to open the restaurant this year.

Mirizio was unavailable this morning to identify the former holder of the license in Farrell.

If the license transfer is approved by the state Liquor Control Board, the license would be assigned to the borough, according to council President Richard Houpt.

Councilman Ian Scott Forbes, absent Tuesday, had spoken out against the transfer. He said communities initially are entitled to one state license for every 3,000 people and Greenville already has quite a few more than two bars.
