GREENVILLE

GALSA seeking complex remedies

Three of seven contractors on Greenville's estimated $1.8 million sports complex project have agreed to meet local officials Friday at the 42-acre site in West Salem Township to be introduced to some problems there and to outline their remedies, Greenville Area Leisure Services Association member Rich Parks said Monday.

PennDOT officials also plan to attend to discuss installing a guiderail to divide the complex from high-speed traffic on East Jamestown Road, Parks said.

Local officials from GALSA, the Citizens Steering Committee on Recreational Projects and the borough sent certified letters to the contractors, their bonding companies and the project consultant on March 7.

The project is about $200,000 over budget and 16 months behind schedule. A host of problems with work already done must be fixed, officials have said.

Parks said excavating, plumbing and fencing contractors responded to the certified letter. "They replied and seem willing to cooperate," Parks said. Four contractors and the project consultant had not responded as of Monday, Parks said.

Parks said local officials have problems with work done by one of the four contractors who has not responded, Totin Contracting Inc., and are seeking copies of change orders and other paperwork from consultant Pashek & Associates of Coraopolis, Pa.
