GROVE CITY

Law runs afoul of it after second wedding

A Grove City man has been charged with marrying a woman while still married to someone else, Mercer County Sheriff's Department said.

Shawn P. Law, 32, of 104 Woodside Drive, turned himself in Friday at the Mercer office of District Justice Ruth French, said Mercer County Sheriff's Department.

Law was charged with bigamy, false swearing and perjury, the sheriff said.

Cathy Law made a complaint to the Mercer County District Attorney's Office that Law had married her while he was still married to someone else, authorities said.

Law and Cathy Law were married March 1, 2001, at the Worth Township office of District Justice Lawrence Silvis, the sheriff's department said.

Cathy Law was interviewed Feb. 28. She lived at 104 Woodside at the time, but authorities said they are not sure if she still lives there.

Authorities said Law was married to Irene Law of Hanover, Pa., when he and Cathy Law applied for a marriage license.

Law married Irene Law April 16, 1999, although this morning authorities did not know where the marriage took place.

Law was arraigned before French and released on his own recognizance. His preliminary hearing was set for 1:30 p.m. April 1 before Mrs. French.
