Ursta pleads guilty to assault

A Clark man accused of stabbing another man in a fight pleaded guilty Thursday to mutual combat simple assault before District Justice James E. McMahon, Sharon.

Charges of aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct were withdrawn against Ryan G. Ursta, 22, of 530 Clay-Furnace Road.

There was no testimony given at the hearing.

The charges stem from an incident at 1:21 a.m. March 18 in a Connelly Boulevard parking lot.

According to information at McMahon's office:

Police were called to a fight in progress but it had broken up and Ursta was gone by the time they got there.

Christopher Roscoe, 23, of New Wilmington, had been stabbed in the neck and chest but said he didn't know the name of the man who stabbed him. Roscoe was with two friends.

Ursta turned himself in to police later that morning. He told police he talked to a man in the parking lot who told him to leave, and Ursta said he agreed to leave. Then someone -- who was later identified as Roscoe -- grabbed him from behind. Ursta said another man punched him.

Ursta told police he then reached into his pocket, grabbed a small pocket knife and swung at the man but wasn't sure if he hit him.

Roscoe was treated at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System for his injuries.

No one else has been charged in the incident.

Ursta was given 1 year of state probation and was ordered to pay Roscoe's medical bills and $480 restitution for lost wages.
