Sara Elizabeth Buchanan Braham Coolspring Twp. homemaker was active bowler, golfer Sara Elizabeth Buchanan Braham, 5 Davis Lane, Coolspring Township, died at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002, in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, after a brief illness. She was 88. Mrs. Braham was born Feb. 6, 1914, in Grove City to David Clinton Buchanan and Olivia "Ola" Breckenridge Buchanan. A homemaker, she was a former member of Harmony Presbyterian Church in Harrisville. Mrs. Braham was an avid bowler and golfer. Surviving are: her husband, David L. Braham, whom she married Aug. 22, 1936, at the residence; three daughters, Myrna Lee Vallely, wife of the late Jack Vallely, Jackson Center; Judy A., wife of Tom Roxberry, Linesville; and Charlene, wife of Bill McCandless, Mercer; one daughter-in-law, Susie Braham, Harrisville; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Braham was preceded in death by her parents; one son, David William Braham; and an infant sister.
BRAHAM Margaret P. 'Honey' Carroll Knouse Grocery store co-owner was member of Beloved Disciple Margaret P. "Honey" Carroll Knouse, a resident since 1973 of 605 Tidball Ave., Grove City, died of natural causes at 5:25 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002, in her home. She was 60. Mrs. Knouse was born Aug. 21, 1941, in Shenandoah, Pa., to Leo M. Carroll and Marion O'Brien Carroll. She was co-owner for 17 years of BiLo Market in Grove City and previously worked for the former Sun Drug and First Seneca Bank, both Grove City. Mrs. Knouse was a member of Church of the Beloved Disciple in Grove City. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving are: her husband, Samuel B. Knouse, whom she married Sept. 18, 1965, at home; two children, Mrs. Curtis (Kimberly Jo) Winter, Jacksonville, Pa.; and Scott B. Knouse and his wife Gloria, Grove City; two grandchildren, Samuel Owen Winter and Abbigailmae Knouse; one sister, JoAnn Bliss, Port Orchard, Wash.; and one brother, Robert Carroll and his wife Gail, San Diego. Mrs. Knouse was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister-in-law, Mae Carroll. Memorial contributions may be made to Grove City Community Library, 125 W. KNOUSE Rev. Dr. Oscar E. Remick Retired college chancellor was active in community BANGOR, Maine -- Rev. Dr. Oscar E. Remick, Trenton, Maine, formerly of New Wilmington, died Monday evening, March 25, 2002, in Eastern Maine Medical Center. He was 69. Born Aug. 24, 1932, in Ellsworth Maine, Dr. Remick was a son of the late Horace and Blanch Rich Remick. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by two sisters, Kathleen Karst and Arlene Rand. Dr. Remick is survived by: his wife of 42 years, Emma L. Lorance Remick, Trenton, Maine; a son, Mark Remick and his wife Traci; and their daughters, Amy, Megan and Leah, all Ellsworth, Maine; a son, John Remick, Detroit; a son, Paul Remick, Cleveland; a sister, Loretta and her husband Dr. Dewey Richards, Trenton and Port Charlotte, Fla.; three nephews, Robert Tilden and John Karst, both Lamoine, Maine; and Jim Karst, Ellsworth; and five nieces, Julie Tilden, Lamoine; Dr. Andrea Tilden, Waterville, Maine; Sarah Warner, Lincoln, Maine; Marilyn Wensing, Nashua, N.H.; and Linda Reger, Amherst, N.H. After graduating from Ellsworth High School in 1950, Dr. Remick continued his education, earning a bachelor of arts degree from Eastern College; a bachelor's in Divinity from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary; and master's degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary. Graduate studies in philosophy and religion were attained from Andover Newton and Harvard Divinity schools. He earned a Ph.D. from Boston University. With two Fulbright scholarships, he studied at Heidelberg University, and in India. Dr. Remick was an ordained Presbyterian minister. Dr. Remick was the vice president and academic dean at Assumption College in Worcester, Mass., from 1968-71; served as president of Chatauqua (N.Y.) Institution, 1971-77; was dean of Arts and Humanities at State University of New York at Fredonia from 1977-80; and served as president of Alma (Mich.) College from 1980-87. He retired as chancellor of Westminster College in 1997, after serving as president for 10 years. Following his retirement, he returned to Ellsworth to pursue his lifelong passion of teaching. Dr. Remick conducted classes at the University of Maine; Bangor Theological Seminary; and the Adult Christian Education Class at the First Congregational Church in Ellsworth. He was active in community organizations and served on the boards of directors for The Abbe Museum, Woodlawn Museum (Black House), The Grand Auditorium and the Ellsworth High School Alumni Association. Dr. Remick had served as chairman for the Council of the Arts in New York, Michigan and Pennsylvania. He was an advisor to several governors and to Congress on higher education and was appointed to Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge's Keystone Committee to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of state government through reforms in the areas of education, health care, economic development and welfare. He had been honored twice with the Paul Harris Fellow Award for public service. REMICK Michael J. Kushner Brookfield man retired as patternmaker, woodworker A funeral service will be held Saturday for Michael J. Kushner, 480 Wintergreen Drive, Brookfield. He died at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday (3-27-02) in John XXIII Home, Hermitage. He was 87. Mr. Kushner was born Oct. 16, 1914, in Cleveland, a son of Michael and Anna Valek Kushner. He was a self-employed patternmaker and talented woodworker, retiring in 1999. Mr. Kushner was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Vienna. His wife, Mary Kovacevich Kushner, whom he married Oct. 19, 1940, died March 28, 1993. Mr. Kushner is survived by: his daughter, Beth Kushner, Brookfield; a son, Bob Kushner and his wife Bonnie, San Diego, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Anna Marie Kushner, Friendswood, Texas; four grandchildren, Nadine Hazlett, West Middlesex; Theresa Smith, Friends-wood; and Bill Kushner; and Karen Kushner, both San Diego; and four great-grandchildren, Julie and Bob Hazlett, Michael Smith and Ryan Joseph Kushner. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, William Kushner; two brothers, John and Tom Kushner; and a sister, Anna Harrington. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
