Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts schedules spring classes
The 2002 spring class schedule will run April 9 through June 1 in Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts, 124 E. Leasure Ave., New Castle.
The institute offers classes and lectures teachers can take for Act 48 credit. Hoyt is the only non-collegiate facility offering such credit in arts and humanities.
The Art Appreciation Series was designed to encourage teachers to integrate arts into their curriculum. Each interactive workshop is eligible for Act 48 credit.
The following subjects will be part of the series:
"Survey of Art from World War II" -- 7 to 8 p.m. April 17, with Dr. Lou Zona, Butler Institute for American Art's director.
"Movement as a Learning Tool" -- 4 to 5 p.m. May 4, with Abbey Alter, dancer, actress and instructor.
"Writing Historical Fiction: The Short Story" -- 7 to 8 p.m. May 15, with William Rundorff, fiction writer.
"Clay in the Classroom" -- 7 to 8:30 p.m. May 22, with Donna Hetrick, potter and ceramics instructor.
"Integrating Art in Education" -- 3 to 4 p.m. May 25, with Dr. Richard Hamwi, art department director at Mercyhurst College in Erie.
Lectures are $15 each or $75 for the series.
A range of classes also will be offered for children, teen-agers and adults.
Handwriting analysis will be offered 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays for eight weeks. Cost is $81 for members and $90 for non-members.
