Champagne. A fashion show. Dressing up to the nines. A special night for women held April 17 at Tiffany's in Brookfield, should be more than just "Some enchanted evening."

Its a chance for area women to help raise money for the local women's shelter and breast cancer research.

"Women are running in every different direction, kids, working, cooking, cleaning," said Andrea Peters of Brookfield, and an Independent Seniors Sales Director for Mary Kay cosmetics. "We wanted to make a stand in the valley and provide a huge powerful event held for women."

"An Evening for Women," in its second year, is the way that Ms. Peters and Cheryl Roqueplot-Foltz of Hermitage, who owns Je'riel Fashions in downtown Sharon, have chosen to give back to their community.

Last year, the business women raised over $6,000 for their chosen charities at the event. Instead of holding the event on a Saturday, as it was last year, this year they decided a week night was best.

"A lot of working women don't want to give up a Saturday," said Ms. Peters. "This way, having it on a Wednesday night, just makes it a longer day for women. It'll just be a better ending."

The three and a half hour event starts at 5:30 p.m. and includes a champagne dinner, a choreographed fashion show, a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle, and the raffling of a blue topaz and diamond gold ring, as well as craft demonstrations, such as gardening, home decorating, cooking and jewelry making.

We want things that women are interested in doing in their down time. They will not have a dull moment. Its packed with things to do." said Ms. Peters. "We like it at Tiffany's because of the chandeliers, the way the place looks."

"When Cheryl came to me about this two years ago, as soon as the words were out of her mouth, I was saying, my gosh it could be so big, a class act," said Ms. Peters. "A problem women have is that we don't think big enough."

In fact, last year's event went so well, with over 300 people in attendance, that the women went even bigger this year, with seating available for 500 women.

Because the two ladies decided to go at this fund-raiser on a larger scale the first year, the popularity of the event has already yielded close to 300 reservations already for this year's event from as far away as Akron and Beaver Falls.

And they are both hoping to double the amount given to the local women's shelter and breast cancer research.

"I lost three people in my unit to cancer. And we both want to empower women," said Ms. Peters.

"We just decided to take both causes and both forces and put them together. The neat part about us is that we have very strong personalities, but our weaknesses and strengths balance each others. To get something of this magnitude moving without conflict is amazing," added Ms. Roqueplot-Foltz.

The women wanted to emphasize that the event, which will pamper them, is also a fund-raiser. They encourage women to spend money on the raffles, Chinese auctions and the donation box.

"Last year almost everyone walked out with gifts they won,and a favor bag full of items," Ms. Peters said, adding that the favor bag is included in the $25 ticket fee, along with the champagne dinner.

"This will help a lot of women who think they are the only ones going through something, find out they are not alone," Ms. Roqueplot-Foltz added.

There are still tickets and vendor tables available. The women are also accepting paid advertisements for their program to be passed out the night of the event. A memory page to honor or remember women affected by cancer can be purchased for $5 and will also be included in the program booklet.

"I believe you need to be involved in your community," said Ms. Roqueplot-Foltz. "That's why we're doing this."
