Mulgrew leaps from Star Fleet to YSU stage as Shaw's lover
Kate Mulgrew, who just left her Starfleet commission as Capt. Kathryn Janeway in the television series "Star Trek: Voyager," will play George Bernard Shaw's lover in "Dear Liar" at 8 p.m. April 25 in Ford Theatre, Bliss Hall, Youngstown State University.
Dr. George McCloud, YSU dean of the College of Fine and Performing Arts, will play Shaw.
Jean Kilty adapted "Dear Liar" from the correspondence between Shaw and Mrs. Patrick Campbell.
Ms. Mulgrew left Dubuque, Iowa, at 17, to study in New York. She landed a role on the soap opera "Ryan's Hope," and at age 23 was tapped to play the lead in the television series "Kate Columbo," which is syndicated as "Kate Loves a Mystery."
Her other television roles included "Cheers," "Murphy Brown," "The Mansions of America" and "Heartbeat." In film, she appeared in "Love Spell: Isolt of Ireland," "A Stranger is Watching," and "Throw Mama From the Train."
Ms. Mulgrew made her Broadway debut in "Black Comedy," and has acted in "Titus Andronicus," "Heda Gabler" and "Measure for Measure."
