Senior center plans an action-packed April

Sandy Lake Senior Community Center, division of Mercer County Area Agency on Aging Inc., 29 Railroad St., announces its April activities.

Participants with the Belterra trip will depart at 7 a.m. April 9 and return on April 10.

Seniors will participate with Jon Kolb in an exercise demonstration for students on April 15 at Mercer County Vocational Technical School. Interested seniors may sign up for the 8:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. sessions. Departure is set for 8 a.m.

On April 26, doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for the Gospel Music Benefit featuring Stan Medberry, Jack Kendall, Ron Knapp, Chuck Thorpe, Ken and Terry Tenney, Bob and Linda Cook, Carolyn Bills, Curt and Janene Minshull and Tim McCall. Refreshments will be available. The center will closed during the day and open only from 6 to 10 p.m. Noon lunch will not be served. Anyone who would like a non-perishable lunch to take home Wednesday or Thursday, may sign up at the registration table. Donation: $2. Members are also asked to sign up to donate pies for the concession stand.

  • April 2 -- 11:15 a.m., Bill Gaither Music video.

  • April 3 -- 10 a.m., Exercise with Jon Kolb; and 11:30 a.m., lunch.

  • April 4 -- 11:15 a.m., Family table feud.

  • April 5 -- 11:15 a.m., Grocery Bingo.

  • April 8 -- 11:15 a.m., "Strategies for Investing for Income" with Jeff Stainbrook; and 1 p.m., 500 card party. Call for a table reservation.

  • April 9 -- 11 a.m. to noon, Blood pressure screening by Life Force Ambulance; and 11:20 a.m., table game.

  • April 10 -- 11:20 a.m., sing-along.

  • April 11 -- 9 a.m., Program Committee meeting; and 11:15 a.m., horse racing.

  • April 12 -- 9:30 a.m., Eyeglass cleaning and adjustments; and 11:30 a.m., "Low--Cost Eyeglasses," both by Keystone Blind Association.

  • April 15 -- 11:20 a.m., Skit day.

  • April 16 -- 11:15 a.m., Wheel of Fortune.

  • April 17 -- 11 a.m., "Spring Craft Flower Pots" taught by Intermediate Unit IV students. Call for a reservation.

  • April 18 -- 11:15 a.m., Birthday and anniversary party with music by New Lebanon Five. Lunch donation: $2.00.

  • April 19 -- 11:15 a.m., Music program with Ray and Nancy DeVault.

  • April 22 -- 11:15 a.m., "Depression/Dementia" with Mark Lancet of UPMC Horizon.

  • April 23 -- 11:15 a.m., Humor Day.

  • April 24 -- 11:20 a.m., Bring in a treasured or unusual item.

  • April 25 -- 11:15 a.m., Poetry Day.

  • April 29 -- 11:20 a.m., Organ music.

  • April 30 -- 11:15 a.m., Name-O.

    Daily schedule includes:

  • Monday -- 9:30 a.m., Line dance; 10:15 a.m. Seniorcise; and 1 p.m. Bridge; and oil painting class.

  • Tuesday -- 9 a.m., Shuffleboard.

  • Wednesday -- 9 a.m., Line dance; 10:15 a.m., Seniorcise; and 1 p.m., watercolor class; and Tai Chi.

  • Friday -- 10:15 a.m., Seniorcise.

  • May 4 -- "Always" dinner and show, story of Patsy Kline in Warner Theater, Erie, April 4.

  • June 5 -- "Annie Get Your Gun" in Carousel Dinner Theatre, Akron, April 22.

  • July 4 -- "Firecracker Cruise," May 30.

  • Sept. 12-13 -- "Daniel," July 29.

  • Nov. 2-7 -- Branson, Mo., Oct. 15.

  • Dec. 15 -- Christmas in Akron, Nov. 14.

    Other upcoming events include the Mercer County Senior Art Show, April 8-12, with awards ceremony and reception at 2 p.m. April 8 in Shenango Valley Center for Aging and Geriatric Health, Hermitage; Jack Bestwick Memorial Shuffleboard Tournament, May 14; and the AARP "55 Alive" Driving Course, May 29-30.

    Property tax/rent rebate and PACE forms for 2002 are available at the center. Lunch is available daily at noon with prior two-day-ahead reservation. Transportation is available. Call Mercer County Community Transit at 1-800-222-8797 by 2 p.m. 24 hours in advance.
