BROOKFIELD

Police force looking for a few good citizens

The Brookfield Police Department is accepting names of people who are interested in going back to school with the police citizen academy.

The 10-week academy is taught by the police and is intended to inform residents about what the police do and put those who complete the course on a call list to help in case of an emergency or disaster.

No date has been set for classes, said Police Chief Dan Faustino, but once the department receives about 15 applicants, classes will be scheduled. Police are aiming for 20 to 25 students and would like to start classes in the fall.

This is the second time the academy is being offered. More than 20 people graduated from the last academy in 2001. Some of them will help with the academy this time, said Faustino.

A donation of $1,000 recently received from the Masury-Brookfield Women's Club and various smaller donations from residents will fund the second academy, he said.
