The Penn-State Shenango Alumni Society is sponsoring its annual "Taste of Penn State" ice cream sale, to help raise funds for the society's scholarship program.

The 10 flavors available are: Death by Chocolate, Peanut Butter Cup, Butter Pecan, Peachy Paterno, Raspberry Fudge Torte, Vanilla, Mint Chocolate Chip, Bananas Foster, Orange Vanilla Sundae and Coffee Chocolate Chip.

Jim Elder, alumni director, said he's tasted each flavor and they are all "wonderful."

"This is the Cadillac or Lexus type of ice cream because it's that good. And it's kind of a novelty because people don't have to travel three hours to get it."

Ice cream can be ordered for $5.25 a half-gallon or $5 each for three or more. Grilled stickies from Ye Olde College Diner are also available at $3.50 per package of six. The ice cream is made at the college Creamery at State College and is usually made especially for campus and dormitory use, but Elder said they have special arrangements to use the ice cream for the fundraisers.

The society has conducted the fundraiser each spring for more than 20 years, Elder said.

"The only other time we do this is during Labor Day's "Ye Olde Day" where we scoop the ice cream at the park. It's always successful."

The deadline to order is May 3 and the pickup date is May 11. Arrangements can be made to pick up orders at Sharon High School between 9 a.m. and noon; or Augustine's Pizza Shop, 833 E. Lutton St., New Castle, from noon to 2 p.m.

Any ice cream that is not picked up will be donated to a community agency. The money raised will go into the society's scholarship fund for students at the Sharon campus.
