SHENANGO VALLEY

Christian Associates celebrates 30 years

Christian Associates of the Shenango Valley will celebrate its 30th anniversary at its Annual Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Presbyterian Church of West Middlesex.

The Rev. Gary Harke, executive director of the Pennsylvania Council of Churches, will be the speaker. Special guests will include former presidents of the local Christian Associates; some who are unable to attend will offer greetings via audio or video tape. A history and photo collection presentation is planned.

The purpose of the organization is to enable Christians from many traditions to work together to make the Kingdom of God a reality in the Shenango Valley.

Rev. Harke and his wife Bonnee live in Harrisburg. Before taking his current post in August 1999, he served as staff associate to the Moravian Church -- Northern Province, coordinating relationships with the National Council of Churches among other duties. He remains active in the Moravian Church.

A presenter at numerous conferences, he and his wife co-presented "Two Ways of Discuss Controversial Issues in Light of Religious Beliefs" at the 1996 annual meeting of the Association of Professors and Researchers in Religious Education. He has been a college teacher and church pastor, and worked on the mission field.
