Sixth-grader at home after finger injury

A sixth-grader is recovering at home after surgery to repair a finger injury he suffered Monday afternoon at Reynolds Elementary School.

The boy was standing in a classroom and had his hand on the door jamb, when someone closed the door and injured the tip of his little finger, said Barbara Clawson, elementary co-principal.

The boy was taken to the emergency room of UPMC Horizon, Greenville, where he underwent surgery, Mrs. Clawson said.

The student was still out of school Wednesday, but reportedly was doing fine, Mrs. Clawson said.

"He wanted to come back to school, but his finger needed a little time to heal," Mrs. Clawson said.
