Environmental education gets $25,000 plus from the state
The state awarded more than $25,000 in state grants to support environmental education in Mercer County, a state legislator said Tuesday.
The funds come from the state's Environmental Education Grant Program, which is administered by the state Department of Environmental Protection, according to a news release from state Sen. Robert D. "Bob" Robbins, R-50.
The grants are:
$15,000 to Farrell Area School District to provide teachers with resources to integrate and assess student performance in environment and ecology academic standards.
$9,922 to Mercer County Conservation District to offer a five-day teacher workshop at Munnell Run Farm in Coolspring Township.
Workshop topics will include new farming techniques, pollution reduction and pest control.
$1,000 to Mercer Area School District to support Mercer Junior-Senior High School's training efforts by providing resources, including educational materials, transportation funding or teacher stipends; and $1,000 to the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV for the same purpose.
