FARRELL, FRANKLIN

Prosecutors drop alleged rape case

A case against a man accused of kidnapping a woman in Franklin and taking her to Farrell, where he allegedly raped her, has been dropped.

Charges of rape, kidnapping, carjacking, simple assault and unlawful restraint filed against Anderson L. Stoutmire, 35, formerly of 815 Wallis Ave., Farrell, have been withdrawn, said a spokeswoman for Venango County Central Court.

A preliminary hearing was postponed three times because the victim did not show up, and prosecutors withdrew charges following the last scheduled hearing April 3.

Stoutmire was arrested Feb. 14 in Farrell on the Franklin charges. Franklin police said the rape and assault occurred two days before.

Police also charged Stoutmire with giving a false, name, address and date of birth to police who responded to a 911 hang-up call at a Franklin convenience store several hours after the alleged rape.

Stoutmire pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 3 to 12 months in jail and fined $150 and costs.
