Get on the bus to buy prescriptions across border
The Alliance for Retired Americans is sponsoring a trip to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, for area seniors to get prescription drugs.
Patients with high out-of-pocket costs for their prescriptions are eligible. The non-profit group is picking up most of the cost for the trip, but patients will be responsible for paying any doctors’ fees and the drug costs.
Canadian prescription costs are often well below those in the United States, in part because provinces in Canada buy the drugs in bulk, allowing for greater discounts.
Those who go on the trip will be taken to a Canadian drugstore to fill an initial three-month supply of each prescription. Refills are available by phone from the same pharmacy for one year.
The bus for Hamilton will leave Howard Johnson’s motel in East Lackawannock Township at 9:30 a.m. May 13 and will arrive in Hamilton that afternoon. Hotel accommodations have been arranged and the bus will depart Hamilton at 2 p.m. the next day, getting back to Howard Johnson’s at about 8 p.m.
Patients who will be getting the prescriptions must go on the trip; travelers cannot get drugs for other people.
Advance registration is required. For details, call Beverly Colandrea, (724) 346-3537.
