BROOKFIELD

Get info on utility choice at meeting

Residential utility advocate Chris Verich, an outreach specialist from Ohio Consumers' Counsel will speak at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Brookfield High School cafeteria.

Verich will discuss Ohio's electric and natural gas choice programs and other utility issues for residents of Brookfield, Masury, Vienna and Hubbard Township.

The focus of his presentation will be on natural gas choice programs. According to Brookfield Trustee Gary P. Lees, Verich also will explain how to shop for a new supplier, consumer protections and offer information on how to make a successful transition.

Lees said he asked Verich to come because residents have been asking trustees for information. He said residents are interested in signing up for the program but are curious about their options and availability.

An online tool, "price to compare calculator," used to compare the offers of competing electric suppliers will be discussed, as will a list of suppliers, rates, details and contract terms.

Verich is a member of the OCC Speakers Bureau and travels throughout Ohio giving free presentations on electric, gas, telephone and water utilities. Tuesday, Verich also will provide an overview of OCC services and consumer programs.

The state agency also educates consumers about utility issues and resolves complaints.
