MERCER

Calif. teacher among speakers at writers conference

Ethel Herr -- a writer, speaker and teacher from Sunnyvale, Calif. -- will headline the 11th annual one-day writers conference Saturday at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 100 Venango St., Mercer.

A member of the Institute for Historical Study, Ms. Herr is Associate Director of Ad Lib, an -- organization of Christian artists.

The slate of presenters includes Jim Fisher of New Wilmington, author of "The Crimson Stain" and other crime books; Florence Biros of New Wilmington, writer and editor of SonRise Press; Lora Zill, poet in the schools and editor of Time of Singing; Gloria Clover Peterman, novelist and editor of "Penned From the Heart"; Rich Faler of Otter Creek Township, outdoor writer and editor of Beaver Pond Publishing; Karen Martin, who specializes in researching and writing about "old-time ways"; Audrey Stallsmith and Evelyn Minshull, local novelists; Daisy Townsend, author of articles and devotionals; and James A. Raykie Jr., editor of The Herald.

Representatives from Herald Press, Wine Press Publishing House, and The Group will also be on hand.

Intensive workshops in writing for children, poetry, fiction writing, articles, performance poetry and playwriting are some of the offerings for beginners to pros.
