Open house highlights May activities
Shenango Valley Senior Center in the Center for Aging and Geriatric Health, 220 N. Buhl Farm Drive,Hermitage, has announced May activities.
A public open house and health fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10. A buffet lunch with Chinese auction is set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day. The event will also include programs, educational information, demonstrations, door prizes, Tai Chi, balance exercises and screenings by UPMC Horizon and Primary Health Network.
A plant sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 21.
From 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 22, P. Queen of Health South will conduct a stroke screening.
Senior Games will begin May 29 and continue until June 5. Call the center for an application and event schedule.

Tuesday -- 11:30 a.m., center council meeting.
Wednesday -- 11:30 a.m., speaker/handout.
Thursday -- 11:15 a.m., "Cataracts" by Dr. Robert Stein.
May 13 -- 11 a.m., Mother's Day Program.
May 14 -- 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., bus trip to Hartville, Ohio, and Noah's Lost Ark Tour; and 11:30 a.m., speaker/handout.
May 15 -- 11:30 a.m., speaker/handout.
May 16 -- 11:15 a.m., May birthday party.
May 23 -- 11:15 a.m., lawyer Carolyn Hartle will speak.
May 27 -- Center closed for Memorial Day.
Daily activities are games and puzzles. Seniors may also walk the track from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The center is also available during afternoon hours for card playing.
Others include:
Mondays -- 9:30 a.m., music therapy with Judy Christ, certified music therapist; 11:15 a.m., choral group with Jane Bartholomew; 12:30 p.m., tap dancing; and 1:30 p.m., Mah Jongg.
Tuesdays -- 9:30 a.m., blood pressure screenings by Rural Metro Ambulance personnel; and balance exercises with Jon Kolb or Corie Komarc of Sharon Regional Health System's Personal Fitness Center; and 10:30 a.m., sing-along. The balance exercise fee is $1.
Wednesdays -- 10:30 a.m., Tai Chi Qigong with Nick Gracenin. The class fee is $1. Shuffleboard will be played from 1 to 4 p.m. May 15, 22 and 29.
Thursdays -- 10 a.m., line-dancing; 10:30 a.m., discussion group; 1:30 p.m., Mah Jongg; and 3 p.m., balance exercise.
Fridays -- 11 a.m., speaker/handout; and 11:30 a.m., gentle exercise.
One-on-one computer classes are available by appointment. Tax, rent rebate and PACE forms assistance is available by appointment from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The center is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A mini-breakfast is served from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Those who are not having lunch will be charged $1. A donation of at least $1.50 includes breakfast and lunch that is served weekdays at noon. Seniors should arrive no later than 11:30 a.m. to sign up.
