MERCER COUNTY

Go to the fair to learn what's happening this summer

Parents and kids will have a chance to see what summer programs are available in the area at the second annual Old-Fashioned Summer Programs Fair.

The fair will be from 6 to 8 p.m. May 16 at C.M. Musser Elementary School, 500 Cedar Ave., Sharon. The event is sponsored by the 21st Century Community Learning Centers of Sharon and Farrell, Sharon Lifelong Learning Council and the Sharon City School District.

Organizations throughout Mercer County will be on hand to tell parents what activities are open to kids during the summer, said Cheryl Panek, program coordinator for Lifelong Learning.

Organizations attending the event will include churches with information about vacation Bible school, colleges, the Sharon Recreation Board, local libraries and the Valley Arts Guild, Mrs. Panek said.

Local businesses and organizations in the area offer special events for kids in the summer that many parents aren't aware of, Ms. Panek said.

"The event is important because a lot of people that have children don't know about the many programs that are available at a low cost or no cost," Ms. Panek said.

There will be hot dogs, popcorn and drinks available for 10 cents each, as well as door prizes and family fun, she said.

This year's fair is going to be bigger than last year, and Ms. Panek said she hopes it will continue to grow.

Any local organizations that would like to participate in the fair can call Cheryl Panek at (724) 981-6869.
