WILMINGTON TOWNSHIP, LAWRENCE COUNTY

Cops say man tried to rape woman

A New Castle man was charged with attempted rape, aggravated assault and burglary after state police say he broke into a home and attacked a 30-year old woman at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday on Orchard Terrace, Wilmington Township.

Police said Dale E. Hunter, 40, New Castle, forced his way into the woman's home after she answered her doorbell. Hunter knocked her to the floor and attempted to rip off her clothes, police said.

The woman fought back and scared off her attacker, police said. The woman's neck, nose and thighs were injured, and her wedding band and engagement ring were missing, police said. The woman's daughter was home at the time of the incident, police said.

The woman later identified Hunter at the New Castle state police barracks. He was arraigned before District Justice David Rishel, New Castle, and was taken to Lawrence County Jail, after failing to pay $20,000 bond.
