Sharpsville Area High School's Natural Helpers club wanted to scare their classmates sober before the prom this weekend.
So the club members put together a skit about the dangers of drunken driving, which they presented to the juniors and seniors on Wednesday.
"We do something every year," said senior Scott Sherbine, a member of Natural Helpers. "This year we wanted to do something new and different. We wanted to make an impact."
In previous years, the Natural Helpers sponsored a mock accident at prom time to get the message across about the risks of drunken driving.
During the skit, which was set to U2's song "All I Want Is You," three couples attended the prom and then an after-prom party where beer was available.
One partier, played by Natural Helpers president Ryan Sobash, left the party drunk and died in a car accident.
The skit ended with the character's funeral. His friends passed by his casket, which was draped with the graduation gown he would never wear.
Also starring in the skit were Amanda Nashtock, Rachel Pokorney, Amy Dugan, Scott Refner and Randy Veccia. Brett Goda played the funeral director and Natural Helpers members played the funeral guests.
Assisting with the skit were guidance counselor Jocelyn Rybicki, Natural Helpers adviser, and Heather Mitcheltree, who is in charge of the high school drama department.
Sharpsville High School's prom will be held Friday.
