GREENVILLE, SHARON

High school voice students perform Mother's Day recitals

Katie Meyer, a junior at Greenville High School and daughter of Carl and Kathryn Meyer, and Daniel Byerly, a sophomore at Sharon High School and son of Richard and Kathy Byerly, will present a voice recital at 4 p.m. Sunday in Westminster Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 323 Main St., Greenville.

They are voice students of Dr. Michael Bray, music professor at Thiel College, Greenville, and will be accompanied by Raymond H. Ocock, retired professor of music at Westminster College and former college organist at Thiel.

Katie will perform a set of Italian art songs from the 17th and 18th centuries, including a selection from Mozart's "Marriage of Figaro."

Daniel will sing six German songs, including a song cycle by Franz Schubert, and five Robert Louis Stevenson poems from "Songs of Travel," a song cycle by the English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams.

They will conclude the recital with a duet, "Vor der Tur," by Johannes Brahms and "The Prayer" by Sager and Foster.

The singers participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District and regional choir festivals, and Katie recently sang in the PMEA All-State Choir.

The recital is free.
