Car crash victim, 83, dies

A Clark man died Thursday from injuries suffered in a Wednesday car crash in Jefferson Township.

Steve Yaksich, 83, of 580 Clay Furnace Road, died at 2:30 p.m. at UPMC Horizon, Farrell, according to his obituary.

Yaksich had been stopped at a stop sign at Charleston Road and state Route 62 in Jefferson Township when he pulled his car into the path of an eastbound Central Heating and Plumbing van driven by employee Marc Smith, 33, of Sharon, police said.

Yaksich's passenger, Richard Thompson, of 1062 Greenfield Road, Hermitage, was treated at UPMC Horizon, Farrell, and Smith was treated at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, police said.

Route 62 was closed for 45 minutes on Wednesday as police and firefighters cleared the accident scene, police said.
