Mill Creek Metroparks schedules June activities

The following events are planned for June in Mill Creek MetroPark, Youngstown:

  • "Periodical Cicadas: The Plague and the Puzzle" -- 2 p.m. June 9 in Ford Nature Center. Call the center for registration.

  • "Iris: Ensigns of the Rainbow Goddess" -- May 24 through June 30 in Weller Gallery.

  • "Weddings, A Park Celebration" -- May through August in Melnick Museum.

  • Ikebana flower show -- noon to 5 p.m. June 1 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 2.

  • Garden Forum summer flower show -- noon to 5 p.m. June 15 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 16.

  • Fellows Riverside Gardens' rose show -- noon to 5 p.m. June 22 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 23.

  • Adult learn to golf -- 6 to 8 p.m. June 4 through 6 and 11 through 13 at the golf course. Cost is $30 for residents; $50 for nonresidents. Call the pro shop to register.

  • Adult golf instruction league -- 5:45 p.m. Thursdays, June 14 through 15, at the Par 3 Course. Cost is $15 plus greens fees.

  • Page and Tuttle two-person better ball golf tournament -- 7:30 a.m. June 15 at Mill Creek Park's South Course. Cost is $60. Call the pro shop to register.

  • Junior golf camp -- 8:30 to 10 a.m. or 10:30 to noon June 18 through 21, 25 through 28 and July 8 through 11, on the Par 3 Golf Course, for 8- through 18-year-olds. Registration starts at 11 a.m. June 15 at the course or by calling (330) 740-7114.

  • High school golf camp -- 1 to 4 p.m. Fridays, July 19 through Aug. 23 at the golf course for junior high and high school students. Cost is $75. call the pro shop to register.

  • Lil' Rascals camp -- 10 a.m. to noon June 18 and 19 in Ford Nature Center, for those in pre-kindergarten. Cost is $10 for residents; $15 for non-residents. Call the center for registration by June 11.

  • Ecology camp -- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 25 through 28 in Ford Nature Center, for those who just completed kindergarten or first grade. Cost is $40 for residents; $50 for non-residents. Call the center for registration.

  • Mill Creek Park Explorers -- 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 9 through 12 in Ford Nature Center, for those who just completed fourth or fifth grade. Cost is $40 for residents; $50 for non-residents. Call the center for registration.

  • Nature Detectives -- 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 16 through 19 in Ford Nature Center, for those who just completed second or third grade. Cost is $40 for residents; $50 for non-residents.

  • Curious Critter Camp -- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 19 and 20 for the first session; or Aug. 7 and 8 for the second session, both in Yellow Creek Park, for 5- and 6-year-olds. Cost is $15 for residents; $20 for non-residents. Registration is needed by June 12 for the first session; Aug. 1 for the second. Call the park to register.

  • Summer Survival School -- 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 23 and 25 in Yellow Creek Park, for those 10 and older. Cost is $20 for residents; $25 for non-residents.

  • "Clouded Leopard" book discussion -- 10 a.m. June 15 in Ford Nature Center. Call the center for information.

  • Annuals in a hanging basket -- 10 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 2 p.m. June 7; and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. June 8 in Fellows Riverside Gardens, for 3- through 5-year-olds. Cost is $9. Call the gardens to register.

  • Tales for Twos -- 10, 10:45 or 11:30 a.m. June 13 in Ford Nature Center, for 2-year-olds accompanied by an adult. Call the center to register.

  • Fabulous Flag Day -- 10 a.m. June 14 in Yellow Creek Park, for those 6 and older. Call the park by June 11 to register.

  • "Turtles are Terrific" preschool nature hour -- 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. June 21 or 22 in Ford Nature Center, for 3- through 5-year-olds and their parents. Cost is $2. Call the center to register.

  • Strawberry jar of hens and chickens -- 1:30 to 3 p.m. June 28 in Fellows Riverside Gardens, for those 6 and older. Cost is $14. Call the gardens to register.

  • Yellow Creek Park concert series -- 7 p.m. June 12 in the park.

  • Mahoning Valley Button Box Club -- Meet in the Pavilion.

  • Summerfest Spectacular -- 7 p.m. Wednesdays in Judge Morley Pavilion. Cruise Control with Ernestine Lane will perform June 19; Colin Dussault's Blues Project, June 26.

  • Applied Sciences in the New Millennium teachers' workshop -- 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 17 through 21. Cost is $412. Call the park office by June 7 to register.

  • Preserving a special place -- 2 p.m. June 2 at Ford Nature Center.

  • The Cicada Invasion -- 2 p.m. June 8 in Ford Nature Center. Call the center by June 6 to register.

  • Ten-Mile Hike -- 1 p.m. June 16 in Ford Nature Center.

  • Let It Go Day -- 2 p.m. June 23 in Ford Nature Center.

  • All Day Walking Tour -- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 30 in Ford Nature Center. Call the center to register.

  • Irises through the seasons -- 6 to 8 p.m. June 5 in Fellows Riverside Gardens. Cost is $13 for residents; $17 for non-residents. Call the gardens to register.

  • Rise and Bloom -- 8:30 to 10 a.m. June 12 in Fellows Riverside Garden. Cost is $5 for residents; $7 for non-residents. Call the gardens to register.

  • Ferns -- 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 13 in Fellows Riverside Gardens. Cost is $13 for residents; $17 for non-residents. Call the gardens to register.
