Hired Wednesday as playground staff were Melissa Fowler, Teressa Manilla, Kate and Colleen D'Angelo, Darwin Dixon, Taneesha Williams, Yauna Harrison and Kelly Thomas, all Farrell; and Rachel and Sarah Varcholik, Wheatland.

Maintenance personnel will be Louis Falconi Jr., son of commission member Louis Falconi; Marc Tamber; Frank Holloway; Brian Sanders, son of commission member Brian Sanders; and Justin Nicastro, all Farrell; Ward McKinney, Wheatland; and Sean Kearney, a Farrell student who lives in New Castle.

Playground and maintenance personnel will be paid $5.15 an hour.

Hired as coaches at $7 an hour were Falconi and Brent Shrawder, physical fitness; Edward Turosky Jr. and Tiffany Holden, girls basketball; Michael DeCello, boys basketball; and Harriett Morrison, volleyball.

Maintenance on the playgrounds starts June 10, and the playgrounds -- Rosetta Ragster/Southwest Gardens, the elementary school, Emerson Avenue and Wheatland -- will open June 17, said recreation Director Anthony Retone.

The school-based basketball and football programs start June 10, and volleyball begins June 24.

Free lunches will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting June 11. The school district provides the lunches and the commission helps distribute them.
