GALSA announces schedule of summer rec activities

Greenville Area Leisure Services Association (GALSA) has scheduled upcoming events.

The following day camps are planned in Riverside Park, Greenville:

  • Traditional Camp -- 9 a.m. to noon weekdays, June 10 - 21, for 5- through 10-year-olds. Children must have completed kindergarten. Swimming lessons are required as part of the camp at an additional cost or a season pass.

  • All Girls Camp -- 1 to 3:30 p.m. June 10 - 13, for 8- through 12-year-olds. A girl's afternoon of shopping and late night at 6 p.m. will wrap up the camp June 13.

  • Little Dabblers -- 1 to 2:30 p.m. June 17 - 12, for 3- through 5-year-olds.

  • All Sports Camp -- 9 to 11:30 a.m. June 24 - 28, for 7- through 10-year-olds.

  • Fun With Spanish -- 1 to 2:30 p.m. June 24 - 28, for 6- through 9-year-olds.

  • Variety of Adventure -- 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 1 - 3 and 5, for those with special needs who are 12 and older.

  • Safety Town -- 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. July 1 - 3 and 5, for 4- and 5-year-olds. Campers should ring a snack.

  • Tumbling Tots -- 9 to 10:30 a.m. July 8 - 12.

  • Tumbleweeds -- 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. July 8 - 18, for 6- through 8-year-olds.

  • Art Camp -- 1 to 3:30 p.m. July 8 - 12, for 6- through 11-year-olds.

  • Teen Trek/Funky and Wearable Art -- 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 15 - 19, for 10- through 15-year-olds. Campers must bring a bag lunch.

  • Kids in the Kitchen -- 9 through 11:30 a.m. July 22 through 26, for 5- through 10-year-olds.

  • Woodn't This Be Fun? -- 1 to 3 p.m. July 22 - 26, for 8- through 12-year-olds.

  • Earth Explorers -- 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 29 - Aug. 2, for 8- through 12-year-olds.

    Registrations are needed a week before each camp. There are costs.

    The following programs also are scheduled:

  • The Over The Hills Enjoyable Riding (OTHER) ride event -- Beginning with registration from 7 to 9 a.m. June 1 in Riverside Park. Lunch will be available 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., except for the 12-mile family route which will receive a snack. Helmets are required.

  • Youth pottery classes -- 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. or 10:45 a.m. to noon Mondays, June 10 - July 15, for those ages 6 through teens. Registration is needed by June 4.

    GALSA also is selling discount admission tickets throughout the summer for Cedar Point, Sandusky, Ohio; and Six Flags World Adventure, Aurora, Ohio. Discount could save up to $10 on each ticket.
