Police say man had plants in van

A Coolspring Township man stopped for a traffic violation was arrested when police found a dozen marijuana plants in his van.

Thomas C. Dailey Jr., 805 Lake Latonka Drive, was stopped at 11:20 a.m. Saturday on Route 19 in Portersville, Butler County, for a studded tire violation during a "Buckle Up America" operation, police said.

As part of the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration's Buckle Up America Week, state and local police have been checking for traffic violations, with an emphasis on the seat belt law.

The trooper who stopped Dailey saw what appeared to be live marijuana plants in the back seat area of Dailey's van, police said.

Dailey was arrested and his van was impounded. Using a search warrant, police found 12 marijuana plants, ranging from 6 inches to 3 feet in height, various drug paraphernalia and plant growing substances, and $2,500 cash, police said.

Although police did not specifically release what Dailey was charged with, they said the charges were filed under Act 64, the state's drug law.

Dailey was arraigned and taken to Butler County Jail after failing to post $2,000 bond, police said.
