Trio pleads not guilty to coke charges

Three men, including two with Farrell ties, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to federal charges of drug conspiracy.

The attorneys for Alex Martin, also known as Terry Hunter, 39, of 809 Lee Ave., Farrell; former Farrell man Ramon T. "Mo-Man" Wright, 33, of Forest Park, Ohio; and Roger Williams, 34, of Moreno Valley, Calif., entered their pleas during arraignments before Magistrate Judge George J. Limbert, Youngstown.

Williams has agreed to remain in custody until trial, while Limbert continued his April 17 order that Wright and Martin be held without bail.

All three, who are being held in Mahoning County Jail, were indicted May 14 on charges of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute more than 5 kilograms -- about 11 pounds -- of cocaine and more than 5 grams of crack cocaine.

Martin and Williams also were charged with aiding and abetting and possession with intent to deliver about 9.755 kilograms of cocaine -- about 21 1/2 pounds -- while Wright faces the added charge of attempting to possess with intent to distribute the same amount of cocaine.

The indictment is general, essentially only listing the charges.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Christa Dimon Brunst said she could not comment on the specific events that led to the charges because it's an ongoing investigation.

The complaints filed against the men April 12 by the Drug Enforcement Agency could not be found in either the clerk's office or Limbert's office, officials said Tuesday.

Kansas state troopers assisted in the investigation, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

The case has been assigned to Judge Peter C. Economus, Youngstown.

Attorney Stanton Levinsen of Pittsburgh is defending Wright, and represented Wright and Martin at the arraignments. At Martin's arraignment, Levinsen stood in for Ralph D. Karsh of Pittsburgh.

Gary L. Van Brocklin stood in for Williams' Attorney, James S. Gentile of Youngstown.
