Hartzell Orchestra first up for Buhl concert series

HERMITAGE -- The Doug Hartzell Orchestra kicks off the summer Sunday concert series at Buhl Farm park, Hermitage, with a 6 p.m. June 9 show.

The orchestra is a six-piece group led by the trombonist, who also composes and arranges. The band specializes in updated arrangements of big band era tunes.

Hartzell has played for the Toledo and Youngstown symphonies and the Kenley, Carmen Mico and Jimmy Dorsey orchestras.

John Davis will be guest vocalist with the band.

  • Frank Gallo Orchestra, 6 p.m. June 23.

  • Fred Boles Quintet, 6 p.m. June 30.

  • Mercer Community Band, 6 p.m. July 7.

  • Carmen Mico Orchestra, 6 p.m. July 14.

  • Warren Junior Military Band and the Shenango Area Youth Chorus, 5 p.m. July 21.

  • Wrangler Band, 6 p.m. July 28.

  • Great Pretenders, 6 p.m. Aug. 4.

  • Ed Telega Orchestra, 6 p.m. Aug. 11.

  • Kalico, 6 p.m. Aug. 18.

  • Packard Band, 6 p.m. Aug. 25.
The shows are sponsored by the F.H. Buhl Trustees. Musicians Performance Fund is co-sponsoring the June 9 through 30, July 7 and Aug. 11 concerts, and the Shenango Valley Performing Arts Council is co-sponsoring the July 7 and 21 and Aug. 25 shows.

All shows are free.
