SHENANGO VALLEY

Coroner investigating death of ex-local man

Mercer County Coroner J. Bradley McGonigle III said he is awaiting toxicology reports on a former Shenango Valley man who died Friday at the hospital of UPMC Horizon, Farrell.

McGonigle said that while he did not order an autopsy on Anderson Lerone "Chip" Stoutmire, 36, of 1335 Chestnut St., Franklin, blood was drawn for toxicology tests.

"We feel we'll find our answer there," McGonigle said.

McGonigle said he would not discuss why he believes toxicology tests will help him determine the cause and manner of death, or how Stoutmire came to be brought to the hospital until the test results are back.

No police department is investigating the death, McGonigle said.

Stoutmire had been recently released from prison, McGonigle said.

Stoutmire was serving a 3- to 12-month sentence and fined $150 and costs in Franklin after pleading guilty Feb. 27 to a charge of giving a false name, address and date of birth to police who responded to a Feb. 12 hang-up call at a Franklin convenience store.

At his sentencing, Stoutmire asked District Justice David Fish to sentence him to rehabilitation, but the reason for rehabilitation was not specified. Fish declined.

Also Feb. 12, a woman alleged that Stoutmire assaulted her, took control of her car and drove her to Farrell, where he raped her.

Charges of rape, kidnapping, carjacking, simple assault and unlawful restraint were withdrawn April 3 after the alleged victim failed to show up for a preliminary hearing for the third time.
