Prosecutor's office investigates Baker

A Brookfield police officer who is under investigation by the Trumbull County Sheriff's Department has resigned.

Lt. James Baker, a 9 1/2-year veteran of the police department, formally resigned over the weekend, Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Chris Becker said this morning.

Baker has been accused of breaking into the home of a former female friend April 23 and had been on paid administrative leave since then, Brookfield Police Chief Dan Faustino said last week.

No charges have been filed against Baker, who was not on duty when he allegedly kicked in the door at Wyngate Manor Mobile Home Park, Faustino said.

Brookfield police are conducting an internal investigation but turned the criminal investigation over to the Trumbull County Sheriff's Department.
