Sharpsville native Karl G. Miller was remembered Sunday through a dedication of a garden at the Sharpsville Church of the Nazarene.

Miller, who died of cancer on Oct. 4, 2001, will be memorialized via the garden donated by classmates from the Sharpsville class of 1948, friends and family.

The garden, completed this weekend, features a brick walking area, flowers, shrubs, white chairs, picnic table, bird bath and picket fence, said Ruth Miller, Miller's wife of four and a half years. There will also be a stone gray cross and plaque honoring Miller, she said.

"He was so wonderful to me and his family and friends," Mrs. Ruth said of her husband. "His classmates have been so great putting this all together."

The Hermitage man served as an Air Force sergeant during the Korean War and had been a South Pymatuning Township policeman.

He belonged to Sharpsville Church of the Nazarene, and was a charter member in the Lakeside Evangelical Congregational Church, Pymatuning Township. He also volunteered at the Prince of Peace Center in Farrell.

Miller was told of his prognosis in August of 2001. He remained home for his final three months, under the care of his wife.

"Hospice was wonderful to him," Mrs. Miller said. "It was nice to have him home, and so many visitors came to see him then. In one day, we had 49 people come through to see him," she said.

"He was a great man and will always be remembered as such," she said.
