TRUMBULL, MERCER COUNTIES

Pulaski man gets 2 years in burglary case

A Pulaski man who helped with a burglary a year ago in Vernon Township, Trumbull County, then was a passenger in a car that led police on a two-state chase and ended with a crash in Wheatland has been sentenced to prison.

Josh Yost, 21, of 215 Beechwood Blvd., was sentenced Monday to 2 years in Lorain (Ohio) Correctional Institution by Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Peter J. Kontos, said a court spokeswoman.

Yost was given credit for time already served in jail, said the spokswoman, adding she didn't know how much time Yost has served.

Yost pleaded guilty April 4 to a charge of burglary, and a charge of theft was dropped at the time.

Yost was the lookout for Matthew Henry, 21, of 45 Dutch Lane, Hermitage, in the April 13, 2001, burglary, and helped load a television, jewelry and other items into a car, police said.

Henry had smashed a window to get into the home, police said.

A neighbor spotted the men coming out of the house and called police. A sheriff's deputy spotted the car, which Henry was driving, and a pursuit started, with other police departments joining on the way.

Henry drove as fast as 100 mph and side-swiped cars in Hermitage before smashing into two cars at Broadway and Mercer avenues in Wheatland, police said.

Henry ran from the crash, but was captured shortly afterward, and Yost stayed in the car until police arrived, police said.

Henry was indicted Feb. 19 on charges of burglary, theft and failure to comply. He has pleaded not guilty and a Sept. 23 trial has been set before Judge John M. Stuard.

In Mercer County Common Pleas Court, Yost, formerly of Sharon, pleaded guilty to charges of receiving stolen property and conspiracy to commit receiving stolen property. He was sentenced to parole after a mental health evaluation for the remainder of one month to 12 months, and 18 months' probation.

Henry pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property and was fined $400 and sentenced to 36 months' probation.

The Mercer County charges were filed by Southwest Mercer County Regional police.
