FARRELL

Agency's new name reflects its mission, director says

Minority Health Advocacy Committee will now be known as the Minority Health Center.

Olive Brown, agency coordinator, said Tuesday she decided to change the name because the direction of the organization has changed.

"I just see us more as a center. We're doing more hands-on things, rather than people just getting education materials from us," Ms. Brown said. She said she's also trying to get the community more involved in Minority Health and plans a community outreach to stretch beyond local churches where the focus has been.

Ms. Brown said she hopes someday Minority Health -- now housed in Jesus' Church, 901 Fruit Ave., Farrell -- will have its own building, with a paid nurse and possibly a weekly visit from a doctor for the "underserved" community.

Minority Health is affiliated with Sharon Regional Health System.
