Quartet competing for royal title
The Mercer County Dairy Princess Committee recently held the annual Diary Princess Tea for dairy-related girls, ages 16 to 24, interested in competing for the title of the 2002-03 Mercer County Dairy Princess.
Reigning Mercer County Dairy Princess Kim Voorhies hosted the tea at the Leslie N. Firth Learning Center, Coolspring Township, She is a daughter of Gerald and Suzie Voorhies, Stoneboro.
Those in attendance and their mothers heard about the duties of representing the dairy industry of Mercer County. Refreshments included milk punch, fruit with diary dip, cheese and cheesecake.
The four girls competing for the title of 2002-03 Mercer County Dairy Princess are:
Nicole Cochran, daughter of Raymond and Diane Cochran, Grove City. Nicole is a sophomore at Lakeview High School.
Emily Davis, daughter of Chuck and Cindy Davis, Mercer. Emily is a junior at Mercer Area High School.
Maggie Moore, daughter of Ralph and Margie Moore, Grove City. Miss Moore is a graduate of Grove City Area High School.
Karen Strouss, daughter of William Strouss Jr., Jackson Center, and Tammy Strouss, Sandy Lake. Karen is a senior at Lakeview High School.
The winner of the title will serve a one-year term beginning July 1. She will also compete for the title of Pennsylvania Dairy Princess in Harrisburg in September.
The Mercer County Dairy Princess Pageant is set for 8 p.m. June 18 at the Leslie N. Firth Learning Center. Festivities begin with a cowtail hour from 7 to 7:30 p.m. followed by a braised steak dinner. Cost is $8 per adult; $4 for children 5-10; under 5, free.
