HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP

Man hurt in 2-vehicle crash

A Grove City area man suffered massive head trauma after a two-vehicle accident Saturday morning in Hempfield Township, police said.

Timothy Whetzel, 20, of 77 Blom Road, Pine Township, was flown to Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a vehicle he was a passenger in was hit on the passenger side, police said.

Whetzel was in critical condition Saturday night, a hospital spokesperson said.

The accident occurred at 7:46 a.m. on state Route 58 at Wasser Bridge Road, police said.

Darlene Perrine, 42, of 1320 W. Main St., Grove City, was headed north on Route 58 when she started to turn left onto Wasser Bridge Road and her vehicle was hit by an oncoming vehicle, police said. However, police said they aren't sure who was driving the oncoming vehicle, which is registered to a Greenville couple.

Hempfield Volunteer Fire Department and Greenville-West Salem Township police were at the accident scene, police said.

No further information was available Saturday night.
