Motorist dies after Saturday crash

A 20-year-old Grove City man died from injuries suffered in a two-car crash at 7:47 a.m. Saturday at Mercer and Wasser Bridge roads, Hempfield Township police said.

Police said Timothy Whetzel of 77 Blom Road was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he was flown after the crash.

Whetzel was a passenger in a car driven by 42-year-old Darlene Perrine of 1320 West Main Street in Grove City, police said.

Police said Ms. Perrine was headed north on Mercer Road and tried to turn left onto Wasser Bridge Road, but turned into the path of a sport utility vehicle driven by Jonathan R. Bailey, 29, of 64 1/2 Eagle St. in Greenville.

Ms. Perrine was in stable condition this morning at UPMC Horizon, Greenville, a hospital spokesperson said. Bailey was not hurt in the crash, police said.
