Brookfield native and Youngstown State University graduate Derek Mihalcin will hold a book signing for his book "The Fighting Kind" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. June 19 at the Stigliano Book Source, 2880 E. State St., Hermitage.

"The Fighting Kind" is a tale of three strangers who unite to take down the ruthless corporation of KAPETAR. The company seems to stop at nothing to succeed and the trio attempts to put an end to this.

Mihalcin graduated from YSU in 1999 with both a bachelor of arts degree and a masters in secondary education. He enjoys writing poetry and short stories and has already published numerous nonfiction journal articles including a guide to managing attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder.

This guide is coupled with his work as a behavior specialist consultant at Associates in Counseling and Child Guidance in Sharon.

Mihalcin is also named in the "Who's Who in U.S. Writers, Editors, and Poets."

Mihalcin says he has been influenced by a variety of writers including as Carl Jung, Ralph Waldo Emerson and George Carlin. He feels his first novel is "the next step in the progression of my writing."

The book, published by Writers Club Press, is available at Stigliano's during the signing and through bookstore Web sites for $11.95.
