SHENANGO VALLEY

Organizations invited to join annual parade

Preparations are under way for the annual Buhl Day parade which will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 2.

The parade will proceed down State Street and into the park to begin the festivities to honor the Buhls' gift to the valley. Leading off the parade will be three honored guests, members of the community whose gifts of time, leadership and goodwill have followed in the standard of philanthropy started by the Buhl family.

Community groups, organizations and agencies are all invited to participate in the parade to showcase their gifts of service to the area. Walking units, floats, cars and costumed performers are all welcome to join in the fun. The parade route is approximately three miles from start to finish so be prepared with comfortable walking shoes for marching or a comfortable float or car for sitting.

Since this is a parade for the community, certain rules have been established to make it a safe and enjoyable experience for all. The committee asks that these rules be reviewed and discussed before a group completes and submits their applications.

The committee asks that:

  • No candy be thrown from cars or floats. Too many children have been running into the middle of the street to grab at the treats without looking first. Though the cars and floats are moving slowly, safety is still the prime concern. Participants may walk and distribute candy along the parade route.

  • No advertisements or political campaign signs may be exhibited. No literature of any nature should be distributed along the parade route. This is an event for the community to enjoy and solicitation of donations or sales are prohibited along the parade route.

  • All vehicles are to refrain from sounding sirens or horns along Buhl Boulevard.

Letters are being sent out to past participants but new entries are always encouraged. This year a special request is being made for parade marshals to assist in the lineup process. Deadline to register for parade participation is Aug. 2 to assure your group a place in the parade lineup or as a parade marshall.

To register send your name/organization, address, phone number, number of people/vehicles and type of unit float, car/van or walking to Buhl Day Parade Committee, c/o Janet N. Buzzeo, 2105 Oak Haven Court, Hermitage 16148.
