MERCER COUNTY

Grants will help develop parks

Four Mercer County communities will receive a combined $91,500 in state grants to put toward developing local parks, said state Sen. Robert D. "Bob" Robbins and state Rep. Rod Wilt.

Communities earmarked for Community Conservation Partnership Program grants from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, according to the lawmakers, are:

  • Hempfield Township, $35,000 to develop a community park.

  • Wolf Creek Township, $29,000 to develop a community park.

  • Jackson Center, $25,000 to develop Wesley McAfoose Community Park.

  • Jefferson Township, $12,500 to develop a master site plan for a 109-acre community park.

"Parks, playgrounds and trails add so much to healthy communities, and it's good to see the state helping to develop and maintain them," said Wilt, Sugar Grove Township, R-17th District.

"At this time of the year, with the weather so nice, it's really great to have a place to go to enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise," added Robbins, Salem Township, R-50th District. "We have to help maintain our parks, playgrounds and trails if we want them to be available to us."
