BROOKFIELD

Cops hope to patrol housing complexes

By Melissa Finley
Herald Staff Writer

Brookfield police are hoping to know by June 17 if they have landed a contract with the Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority to patrol Hilltop Gardens on Addison Road and Valley West on Brookfield Avenue, said Chief Dan Faustino.

Police already answer calls from those areas but do not consistently patrol them.

"We will sporadically patrol the area by foot," Faustino said. "But, this (getting a contract) would add a permanent schedule of varying times for someone at the department to patrol."

Even if the authority hires the department to patrol the two complexes, Brookfield won't need to hire any additional police, Faustino said.

"It wouldn't spread us too thin," he said. "It would most likely add to overtime hours for our current department" and the authority would be paying the bill, Faustino said.

Authority Executive Director Don Emerson was unavailable for comment.
