Full slate of Victorian fun set for big weekend

Mercer Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its Victorian Weekend with activities planned for July 19 through 21 in Mercer.

The following events are planned for July 19:

   » Noon to 9 p.m. -- Ice cream social on Courthouse Lawn.

   » 1 p.m. -- Story hour in Mercer Area Library with Steve Abrams, puppeteer.

   » 7 p.m. -- Mercer Community Band, Acoustic Fish and contemporary jazz.

The following events are planned for July 20:

   » All day -- Food, Civil War encampment and carriage rides.

   » 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. -- Arts and crafts show on Courthouse lawn.

   » Noon to 4 p.m. -- Silent auction of Victorian hats at the information booth on Courthouse lawn.

   » 10 a.m. to noon -- Grande Victorian Parade.

   » 1 to 1:45 p.m. -- Bandstand entertainment by Karen Elder, and Traveling Shoes clogging group.

   » 2 to 5 p.m. -- Bandstand entertainment by County Mayo Irish folk group.

   » 1 p.m. -- "Gone with the Wind" display and historical walking tour of buildings.

   » 2 to 4 p.m. -- Historical walking tour of Old Mercer Graveyard.

   » 3 to 4:30 p.m. -- Tea and fashion show in Mercer High School cafeteria; cost, $10.

   » 10 p.m. -- Fireworks.

The following events are planned for July 21:

   » Noon to 5 p.m. -- Arts and crafts show on Courthouse lawn.

   » All day -- Food and carriage rides.

   » 1 to 4:30 p.m. -- Bandstand entertainment by Blind Side.

   » 2 to 3 p.m. -- Gospel singer Dan Schall.

   » 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. -- Chicken barbecue in Mercer American Legion Post 159.

   » Noon to 4 p.m. -- Silent auction of Victorian hats at the information booth on Courthouse lawn.

   » 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. -- Historical walking tour of Old Mercer Graveyard.

   » 5 p.m. -- Closing services at the Bandstand.

Five homes and a church will be showcased during a house tour from 1 to 5 p.m. July 21.

Featured will be Bethany Presbyterian Church, 100 E. Venango St.; Mehard Manor, 146 N. Pitt St.; Palmer House, 321 E. Butler St.; Shannon House, 305 Greenville Ave.; Milliron House, 202 W. Market St.; and John Taylor House, 203 N. Otter St., all Mercer.
