A third adult has been charged in the melee that erupted at Sharon High School after Feb. 2 Sharon-Farrell basketball game.

Preston M. Chavers, 18, of 937 Emerson Ave., Farrell, was arrested at 11:53 a.m. Wednesday after he turned himself in at the police station on a warrant for failure to disperse by law enforcement authorities' orders, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, police said.

During the brawl in the high school gymnasium Chavers refused to leave and fought with police when they tried to arrest him, police said.

Last week, Demar Allan Claiborne, 18, of 389 Emerson Ave., Farrell, turned himself in on a warrant for simple assault filed in connection with the fight. Police said Claiborne punched an adult in the face during the brawl.

The first adult charged for his role in the fracas was Jesse J. "J.J." Wilson, 20, of Sherman Ave., Sharon. Wilson pleaded guilty in March to resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He was sentenced in May to serve 60 days to 18 months in Mercer County Jail and ordered to pay $100 in fines.

A number of juveniles have also been petitioned to juvenile court for their roles in the brawl, police said.

The brawl started as a fight between a boy and a girl, one from Sharon and one from Farrell, in the stands during the game. Police moved into the stands, but were surrounded by students, one of whom tried to stop them from breaking up the fight.

Between 70 to 100 people were involved in the melee, which was captured on videotape.

The fights spilled out of the gym to a commons area, and some re-erupted at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, where some people injured in the fight went for treatment, police said. Sixteen people were treated at local hospitals, police said.

Chavers was arraigned before District Justice James E. McMahon, Sharon, and was released on his own recognizance. Both Chavers and Claiborne's preliminary hearings are set for 11 a.m. June 27.
