Man accused of raping Sharon woman on Sunday

A Farrell man was arrested Sunday on charges of raping a 30-year-old Sharon woman near Council Avenue in Wheatland.

William L. Taylor, 38, of 615 Wallis Ave., Farrell, was arrested at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at home on charges of rape, aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, kidnapping and indecent assault, said Southwest Mercer County Regional police.

Taylor picked up the woman at 12:05 a.m. Sunday at New Castle Avenue and Quinby Street, Sharon, to give her a ride home, police said.

She realized he was going the wrong way and told him about it, and he locked the doors when she tried to get out near the Sharon-Farrell border, police said. In the 300 block of George Street, Sharon, Taylor noticed several police cars, grabbed the woman's arm and told her, "Don't make a scene," police said.

He eventually drove into Wheatland where he turned off Council Avenue near Jack O'Donnell Boulevard, along a set of railroad tracks, and raped her, police said. She tried to break free several times, and, at one point, he told her "I have a gun, don't make me use it," police said.

He also bit her on the wrist and face, police said.

The woman was treated at UPMC Horizon, Farrell, police said.

Taylor was arraigned by District Justice Henry J. Russo, Hermitage, and released after posting $10,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. July 3.
